Urdu touches the heart and mind of anyone who comes in contact with it. A language that was born on our sub continent and which evolved and flourished here, Urdu (or Hindustani as it was one known) is erroneously yet commonly consider a “foreign” language and almost exclusively associated with the term Muslim. Post-partition politics and the dominance of English have relegated Urdu to the shadows and distanced Urdu culture from the mainstream.
