In the courtyard of the Quwwatul-Islam mosque stands the famous 'Iron Pillar' which bears a Sanskrit inscription in Gupta Brahmi script, palaeographically assignable to the fourth century, a date which is also confirmed by the peculiar style of it's amalaka -capital. It would be a pleasant surprise to know that its weighing about 6000 kg and made of corrosion free wrought iron.
